On this day after the inauguration of President Biden, we are reminded of Chuck Colson’s oft-repeated phrase,
“Salvation does not come on Air Force 1.”  So, whether we’re grieved or gladdened by the results of the recent election,
that does not change the most fundamental truth - CHRIST is our salvation. And if our country is to be saved,
it will be through Christ touching our hearts and giving us the grace to speak the truth in love
so that we may grow up in all things into Him (cf Eph 4:15-16).  May it be so!

A day in the life...
The most frequently asked question at the monastery seems to be, "What is a typical day like?" Our most frequent answer is a chuckle, and the comment that there is no such thing as a "typical day." Although the services form the pillars of our daily life, every day brings surprises and a variety of obediences. We hope the photo galleries below will help those of you who haven't visited us get a sense of the character of Holy Assumption Monastery, and inspire those of you who have visited to come back soon!

Please note that to fully read the photo captions, you will need to utilize the "full screen" mode for the slideshows. Look for the button in the upper right-hand corner of the slide viewer.

The Church

Monastery Church

The monastery chapel is a replica of the historic 1812 Russian Orthodox chapel at Fort Ross, CA. Our temple was declared a California historic landmark in 1986. It holds the monastery's most precious treasures: icons that date from as early as the 14th century, a wonder-working icon of St. Nicholas, and many relics of saints both ancient and modern, including St. Herman of Alaska, St. Seraphim of Sarov, St. Tikhon of Moscow, St. Innocent of North America, St. Nicholas of Japan, St. Panteleimon, St. Nektarios of Aegina, and many others.

The Animals

Animal Kingdom

It only takes one visit to Holy Assumption Monastery to find out that animals have a special place in our community. Many of the animals with us lived at the monastery before the sisters arrived in 2009. They adopted us, and we do our best to make their lives happy and healthy.
